In Changing Room by CJ McLean, Charlley is making his way to a personal sanctuary—the changing rooms.
I came in, right, he took one look at me,
and I could see the gears start up in his head.
I could see him thinking, ‘Looks like a boy…but I could be wrong.’
I gave him a half-smile and shrug, you know, like:
‘Come on mate, take a bloody stab at it. Fifty-fifty chance you’ll get it right.’
He doesn’t say anything.
Just smiles.
